What are the available sources of land ownership information in Scotland?
Scotland maintains two national registers for land ownership and property titles: the Register of Sasines and the Land Register.
The Register of Sasines contains Search Sheets that provide written descriptions of title deeds for properties and land. These details include information about the buyers and sellers, a verbal description of the property, and the price paid.
The Land Register, in contrast, is a map-based system. It links property descriptions to the Ordnance Map through a title plan and includes ownership details and any Charges or Burdens affecting the property.
The Land Register is gradually replacing the Register of Sasines and is now fully operational across Scotland. All new properties and those sold are registered in the Land Register.
